The "Decline" is in the journalistic Inquiry, Stupid

Boy as a science journalist myself I find this piece very disheartening, not only for the climate, but for journalism, which just about the only thing in decline on the issue.

"some scientists say the Earth hasn't warmed as predicted over the past 10 years --"

Who? Whoever they are they get more credit than NASA. Great work as propaganda. Reporting, not so much. "Cry me a river Pielke Sr," who is not a physical science professor to start with, simply wants a special pleading for conclusions that don't pass muster. That may work in journalism and for the partisan fuzzy social scientists, such as skeptic Bjorn Lomborg, but it doesn't in a hard science field like climatology. Sorry charlie. Life is tough.

This is a non scandal but has worked according to the plan's instigator, most likely a denial group such as the Competitive Enterprise Institute or the George Marshall outfit. It's a good bet the hacker got a paycheck. Go talk to Bob Woodward and follow the money. You'll find the real culprit. There's nothing that can wipeout the measurements and facts about global warming. And nothing has.

On Darwin

"But what is astonishing," Olivia Judson writes, "is how much Darwin did know, and how far he saw. His imagination told him, for example, that many female animals have a sense of beauty — that they like to mate with the most beautiful males. For this he was ridiculed. But we know that he was right. Still more impressive: he was not afraid to apply his ideas to humans. He thought that natural selection had operated on us, just as it had on fruit flies and centipedes."

Elementary Watson, as Holmes would say. And the greatest idea of all time.

Left Livingston part deux

Since I've received attacks from some folks on the left and right about my recent separation from The Enterprise , allow me to clarify. First,an agent is reading my novel. Second, I have started working on a group biography of the Montana Bloomsbury group, and a full-time reporter job had become increasingly difficult to manage time-wise. I have bigger things going than worrying daily about virtually nonexistent local news in the wake of the election. And as I mentioned before, the economics and advancement opportunities just weren't there, nor would they ever be by my boss's own admission, so like the last four reporters I took it as long as I could and moved on. End of story.

Beer...Non essential? No way!

I sometimes agree with George Will and this is one of those times. Survival of the Sudsiest. If only he could apply this approach to climate change, the erudite Will would rise above clueless in D.C. status in the scientific community. Cheers! Writing opinion is the best gig in America. Ask any real reporter.

Politicised Science

Clinton Says She Would Shield Science From Politics" (05 Oct 2007)

Yeah she would, but the reporters whimped out and closed with a winger quote claiming she manipulates numbers for her own purposes. Hello! What does this have to do with science? Would Hillary tell scientists what she wanted to hear like Bush clearly has? No.
“Hillary Clinton says she will bring integrity to science, but on the campaign trail she manipulates basic mathematics in her attempts to explain how she will pay for hundreds of billions of dollars in new spending,” Mr. Diaz said. He also noted that Mr. Bush had made federal money available for stem cell research.
And it's not even science spending mind you. You know, just generic spending that only Democrats do, according to the opposition spokesman here, Mr. Diaz of the Republican National Committee.

Funded srem cells? limited adult ones, while decreeing no more new embryonic lines will be allowed by order of The King! Does this sound like 2007 or 1213? Sadly both. Ever hear of teaching an old dog new tricks? Well they may try once, but they tend to wander off and take a nap under a tree and dream of the good ole days.

Just because a personal opposing he said/she saidism opinion has numbers in it doesn't make it scientific. Journalists these days areen't allowed to challenge BS from any side. They're nothing more than stenographers for who ever they talk to. Moon. Cream Cheese. OK. We'll go with it!
