Politicised Science

Clinton Says She Would Shield Science From Politics" (05 Oct 2007)

Yeah she would, but the reporters whimped out and closed with a winger quote claiming she manipulates numbers for her own purposes. Hello! What does this have to do with science? Would Hillary tell scientists what she wanted to hear like Bush clearly has? No.
“Hillary Clinton says she will bring integrity to science, but on the campaign trail she manipulates basic mathematics in her attempts to explain how she will pay for hundreds of billions of dollars in new spending,” Mr. Diaz said. He also noted that Mr. Bush had made federal money available for stem cell research.
And it's not even science spending mind you. You know, just generic spending that only Democrats do, according to the opposition spokesman here, Mr. Diaz of the Republican National Committee.

Funded srem cells? limited adult ones, while decreeing no more new embryonic lines will be allowed by order of The King! Does this sound like 2007 or 1213? Sadly both. Ever hear of teaching an old dog new tricks? Well they may try once, but they tend to wander off and take a nap under a tree and dream of the good ole days.

Just because a personal opposing he said/she saidism opinion has numbers in it doesn't make it scientific. Journalists these days areen't allowed to challenge BS from any side. They're nothing more than stenographers for who ever they talk to. Moon. Cream Cheese. OK. We'll go with it!

Light My Pyre

As I predicted, Gore was villified the very next day after his Nobel win. Making the rounds of global warming articles quickly revealed hordes of the same knuckle-dragging cave dwellers I've come to revile in Internet discourse when it comes to politics of any sort. Paul Krugman says it best of the sorry state of science understanding by the party in power. To me it's a real Confederacy of Dunces.

What Will It take?

A hurricane hitting Manhattan, he added, might do the trick.

Expect it. They got off easy in 9-11 as bad as that was and that was just a handful of zealots. An upset Earth is an unlimited potential of horrors.

AL "Nobel Prize" Gore

Gore wins the Nobel and shares it with the IPCC. Well done! Expect more vilification from the usual suspects about Kool-aid drinking and the like. He'll be burned in effigy in tomorrow's papers by Taranto, du Pont and the rest of OpinionJournal crowd of deniers. I notice Lomborg didn't win. LOL!

The End of the Ice Age

This year, the sea ice around Antarctica grew to its largest extent since satellite observation began in 1979—whereas the Arctic arrived at record minimum—meaning present climate change is a far different scenario. In fact, the Milankovitch cycles would predict gradual global cooling. Man-made greenhouse gases, primarily CO2, are unequivocally driving present-day warming, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. "This kind of study discusses the natural cycle and could help define the likely positive feedbacks we can expect in the long-term future, [for example] as temperatures warm, the ocean will want to give up more CO2, or rather absorb less," says climatologist Gavin Schmidt of NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies. "But it has no direct impact on attribution of 20th century warming."*

More evidence that this is anomalous with natural warming and our influence is an unatural imbalance. Correcting this is the challenge of our liftimes and many to come.
