PublishAmerica

A quick check of the Technorati rundown on PA has me at the top. I went about three pages in but found this poor soul from one day ago. Another one to the debriefing tank, step right this way. Some bloggers claim we're attacking PA authors and always have, especially the PA authors themselves, but this isn't true. This is about reality and publishing. It's not relative.

Thanks for the free advertisement, but, seriously, I don't need your pity -- or your condolences. I don't know who you are, and you certainly don't know who I am. I have no idea what your personal beef is with PublishAmerica, and I really don't care. Just keep me out of it. You claim that I've been "scammed". Oh, yeah, how so? I am an attorney and have been for 10 years. Before that I was a newspaper reporter for five years. I know what a scam is. I entered into a contract with PublishAmerica with full knowledge of what I was getting into. It's not difficult to find information on the Internet, be it positive or negative. PublishAmerica wasn't my first choice for publishing, but then it probably isn't for most unpublished authors. The reality is that most non-vanity publishers won't give a second look to first-time authors like myself. Believe me, I tried. I came very close a couple of times -- but close isn't good enough. So it came down to paying to have my book published or going through a publisher such as PublishAmerica. I chose the latter. It looks like you chose the former. That's a personal choice. The fact is, I haven't paid a penny to PublishAmerica and they've been extremely responsive to all of my questions. I'm more than capable of making my own decisions, and that's what I did. I certainly don't need some wannabe guardian angel from nowhere telling me what to do. If anyone is the poor soul here, perhaps it's you.

Sir, it is you that are duped. A lawyer you say? Eh gad man the irony. Here's one nearby Authors Lawyer He gets a lot of business from people like you. You will come to see this in time. Good luck in the post PA campaign to publication.

Talk to me when you sign on with a major publisher. Seriously, get a life. For every opinion there is a counter-opinion, and I don't have any desire to get into a pissing match with you. I don't know what your expectations are when it comes to publishing but it seems like they're a bit delusional. I know exactly what I signed on for and why I signed on for it. I don't need anyone to lecture me about the publishing world -- or the law.

Oh, I almost forgot, as long as you're giving me this forum, please don't forget to my book, "Lost in the Ivy." It should be out later this year. I promise it's a lot better read than anything on this blog.

Please, let's not get trite. Mine's on sale this week: Against a Strong Current Oh and it's nonfiction so that's one requirement for vanity publication that is legitimate, but barely. You can't say that can you? And wait untill you see the price from PA. Ooh boy, what a shock that will be. The second one.
